Self-Pay Evaluations

Tunstall Psychological Services, PLLC can assess children ages 18 months to 18 years old for autism spectrum disorder. At times, the evaluation process may determine that other areas of diagnosis are appropriate such as other developmental and behavioral disorders commonly impacting children.

We do not accept insurance for evaluation services. A flat fee is charged to our clients, half of which is required as a deposit to secure the intake and testing appointments.

Tunstall Psychological Services PLLC works to balance evaluation accessibility with an in-depth and comprehensive evaluation process that considers the whole child and all relevant factors.

Here's How We Do It

Step 1: Intake

  • Our intake meeting is conducted with caregivers through a secure telehealth platform. Telehealth is optional, but tends to make scheduling easier for parents since it can be done in the setting of their choosing.

  • The intake meeting is an opportunity for caregivers to voice their concerns, provide details about their observations, and describe their child's personality and strengths.

  • The evaluator will also have questions, sometimes from screeners or other interview tools to help guide the conversation and establish a full picture of the child.

  • Intake meetings typically take an hour or less.

Step 2: Testing Appointment

  • The testing appointment is in-person, conducted in our office setting.

  • During this time, the testing components chosen by the evaluator will be conducted with your child.

  • For some test components, caregiver presence is needed. For some tests, however, it is necessary for the evaluator to test your child alone to reduce distraction and maintain test security and compliance.

  • The length of in-person testing varies but typically does not exceed 2 hours.

Step 3: Results Meeting

  • After the evaluator has completed the evaluation report, the results are ready to be shared with caregivers.

  • This meeting is also conducted through a virtual Telehealth meeting.

  • The evaluator will be able to show the evaluation on the screen as they discuss the results page by page.

  • In addition to results, the evaluator will discuss recommendations based on the information gathered and diagnosis (if one is provided).

Other Components

  • Caregivers will be asked to complete one or more rating-style assessment questionnaires. These can usually be completed online with links provided by the evaluator. Completing these questionnaires in a timely fashion assists with the evaluation process.

  • If the child has teachers or therapists, these individuals may be asked to complete questionnaires as well. The caregiver will be responsible for providing the evaluator with contact information for these individuals.

  • LOCATION: There is a parking lot behind the building and families are welcome to enter from the back entrance.
